MarqMetrix All-In-One Process Raman Systems are incredibly easy to own and operate. However, our customers still need some help when using their new Raman system. Some of the most common issues we see from customers stem from improper setup. So, in this article, we will cover the most common setup mistakes that we see on a regular basis so that you know how to identify them and avoid running into the same issues. If you would like a full, detailed setup guide, you can watch our unboxing video by clicking here

Ensure Good Fiber Connections

Due to the way our All-In-One Raman system works, it is incredibly important to make sure that your fiber connections are clean and secure. To ensure the best possible connection, we always recommend using the included fiber cleaning tool on both the fiber connector ends and  the connection ports on the device. Simply remove the cleaning tool cap, insert the fiber connector and press until you hear a click and repeat two to three times per use. For cleaning the fiber port in the instrument, remove the plastic insert on the fiber cleaning tool, insert and push the tool into the fiber connector until you hear a click. Repeat two to three times. This will ensure the fiber ends are clean before you plug them into the system.

When attaching the fiber cables, start by lining up the key slot on the device, slowly insert the fiber end from a slight angle and then finger tighten to secure. Do not use force to insert the fiber into the connector on the instrument,

Make sure not to sharply bend or kink the fiber cables, as this can result in a damaged fiber and a reduction or complete loss of signal. Of course, double check that all of the power and video cables are attached correctly as well.

Test Your MarqMetrix Process Raman System

The best way to test that you have correctly setup your system is to take a measurement of a known substance. In this case, we are sampling ethanol. If you get a spectrum that looks like this:

then you might want to go back and double check your connections.

A good spectrum looks like this:

If this is what you see on your device, then you have plugged everything in correctly. We recommend that you save the Raman spectrum of your Standard. You can use this spectrum as a reference to monitor your instrument over time.

MarqMetrix Raman systems are designed to be portable. However, if possible, we recommend that you avoid disconnecting the fiber cables after a good connection is made. Of course, if you have any questions along the way, do not hesitate to contact our support team by email or phone.
